If anyone should know how to strike a chord with listeners, it’s singer-songwriter Tommy Ashby. The Borders-based artist has a PhD in psychoacoustics, which is the study of how the brain processes sound, and he has been putting this to good use.
His 2019 Golden Arrow EP has already clocked up more than a million streams on Spotify, buoyed by tours of both the UK and the US, and support slots for Nina Nesbitt. Additional attention has come via Radio 2 airplay and having his music synced in TV shows including Grey’s Anatomy, Love Island and Silent Witness.
On Friday Tommy released his new single, One Word (via Wow & Flutter Records), which is produced by Grammy-award winning engineer Sam Okell. Look out for his live performance on Instagram on 14 May, as well as cameo role in Will Ferrell’s forthcoming film, Eurovision.
