Former Sparrow And The Workshop and Bdy_Prts frontwoman teams up with Frightened Rabbit’s Andy Monaghan and drummer Peter Kelly | Words by Derick Mackinnon and Olaf Furniss. Read on Scotsman.com
We’ve long been fans of Jill O’Sullivan, and her latest musical vehicle, Jill Lorean provides a new snapshot of her songwriting talents. This time, the serial collaborator has teamed up with drummer Peter Kelly and Frightened Rabbit’s Andy Monaghan to create a mini-album (or maxi EP) which veers from traditional folk vocals to PJ Harvey on form, with a hint of Nico and the Velvet Underground sprinkled into the mix.
Living up to their name’s association with speed, the trio recorded six tracks in one weekend session last summer, giving the songs a stylish rawness which boasts a strong live feel. Titled Not Your First, the EP was released on vinyl earlier this month, with the sleeve art provided by O’Sullivan’s daughter who had been recreating a marble effect using Play-Doh. The singer is now working on new tracks and is vowing to get back into the studio with Monaghan and Kelly as soon as possible. https://bit.ly/UTRJilllorean
